This time we are heading to Mount Wuwowei, its trailhead is on Daxueshan Forest Road at 31.2K. Today we hiked along the ridgeline to the triangulation station of Mount Wuwowei. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u5c4b\u6211\u5c3e\u5c71\u7684\u9019\u689d\u7a1c\u7dda\u897f\u5317\u5074\u662f\u6771\u536f\u6eaa\uff0c\u6771\u5357\u5074\u5247\u662f\u5927\u7532\u6eaa\u3002\u6771\u5357\u5074\u7684\u5c71\u5761\u5217\u5c6c1433\u865f\u571f\u7802\u634d\u6b62\u4fdd\u5b89\u6797\uff0c\u9762\u7a4d5,405\u516c\u9803\uff0c\u76ee\u7684\u662f\u9632\u6b62\u7802\u571f\u5d29\u58de\u6de4\u7a4d\u5927\u7532\u6eaa\uff0c\u4ee5\u7dad\u8b77\u8c37\u95dc\u3001\u5929\u8f2a\u3001\u65b0\u5929\u8f2a\u3001\u99ac\u978d\u5bee\u3001\u793e\u5bee\u89d2\u7b49\u96fb\u5ee0\u3002<br>In the northwest side of the Mount Wuwowei ridgeline is the Dongmao River, and in the southeast side is the Dajia River. The hillside of the southeast side is listed as soil conservation forest No. 1433 in the size of 5,405 hectares. Its purpose is to prevent landslide and sand from depositing in Dajia River as to protect Guguan, Tianlun, New Tianlun, Ma&#8217;anliao and Sheliaojiao Power Plants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u9019\u7247\u68ee\u6797\u4e5f\u662f\u53f0\u7063\u9ed1\u718a\u5728\u4e2d\u53f0\u7063\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u68f2\u606f\u5730\u3002\u4f46\u7a1c\u7dda\u897f\u5317\u5074\u7684\u5c71\u5761\uff0c\u537b\u56e0\u975e\u4fdd\u5b89\u6797\uff0c\u6545\u6709\u4e00\u6bb5\u7a2e\u690d\u4e86\u4eba\u5de5\u7684\u7d93\u6fdf\u6797\uff0c\u6a39\u7a2e\u6709\u5dd2\u5927\u6749\u3001\u53f0\u7063\u6749\u3002\u9019\u4f7f\u5f97\u7a1c\u7dda\u7684\u4e00\u908a\u662f\u5929\u7136\u6797\uff0c\u4e00\u908a\u5247\u662f\u4eba\u9020\u6797\uff0c\u5929\u7136\u6797\u5177\u6709\u751f\u614b\u4fdd\u80b2\u3001\u6c34\u571f\u4fdd\u6301\u7b49\u529f\u80fd\uff0c\u800c\u4eba\u5de5\u6797\u5247\u55ae\u7d14\u4ee5\u7d93\u6fdf\u751f\u7522\u70ba\u76ee\u7684\u3002<br>The forest is also an important habitat in central Taiwan for Taiwan Formosan Black Bear. The hillside in the northwest side, however, isn\u2019t listed as soil conservation forest. Economic forests such as Cunninghamia konishii and Taiwania cryptomerioides were planted in some of the area. As a consequence, on one side of the ridgeline is natural forest, and the other side is man-planted forest. Natural forest serves the important purposes of ecological preservation and soil conservation, while man-planted forest serves no other purposes than economical use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6b64\u5340\u57df\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\uff0c\u5c6c\u65bc\u6d77\u62d41,500~2,500\u516c\u5c3a\u9593\u7684\u6adf\u6797\u5e36\uff0c\u6adf\u6797\u5c31\u662f\u4ee5\u6bbc\u6597\u79d1(Fagaceae)\u6adf\u5c6c(Quercus)\u690d\u7269\u70ba\u512a\u52e2\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u3002\u9019\u7fa4\u6bbc\u6597\u79d1\u690d\u7269\u7684\u679c\u5be6\uff0c\u901a\u5e38\u662f\u91ce\u751f\u52d5\u7269(\u53f0\u7063\u9ed1\u718a)\u5165\u51ac\u524d\uff0c\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u98df\u7269\u4f86\u6e90\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\u82e5\u958b\u58be\u7d93\u71df\u6210\u4eba\u5de5\u6797\u3001\u679c\u5712\u3001\u904a\u6a02\u5340\u7b49\uff0c\u5b9a\u6703\u5c0d\u91ce\u751f\u52d5\u7269\u9020\u6210\u5f88\u5927\u7684\u5f71\u97ff\u3002<br>The forest here belongs to oak forest at elevation height 1,500~2,500m. Oak forest is a forest dominated by plant species in Fagaceae family and Quercus genus. The acorns of the Fagaceae plants are usually the important food source in the winter for wild animals such as Formosan Black Bear. Thus, if a natural forest like this is operated as man-planted forest, fruit farm, and recreation area, it\u2019s going to have major impacts on wild animals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/22712478_1743256625693970_8389522522502034451_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4766\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6b64\u5340\u57df\u4f4d\u65bc\u65bc\u96f2\u9727\u5e36\uff0c\u56e0\u964d\u96e8\u91cf\u5927\uff0c\u82e5\u68ee\u6797\u906d\u7834\u58de\uff0c\u5c71\u5761\u5c31\u6613\u5d29\u584c\uff0c\u6545\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u5340\u57df\u4ea6\u662f\u570b\u571f\u4fdd\u5b89\u7684\u6838\u5fc3\u5340\uff0c\u5728\u6c23\u5019\u8b8a\u9077\u6108\u4f86\u6108\u56b4\u91cd\u7684\u72c0\u6cc1\u4e0b\uff0c\u50cf\u5728\u9019\u6a23\u6613\u5d29\u584c\u7684\u5f37\u964d\u96e8\u5340\uff0c\u7d93\u71df\u7684\u4eba\u5de5\u6797\u662f\u5426\u6070\u7576\uff1f\u4e5f\u61c9\u91cd\u65b0\u4f86\u6aa2\u8996\u53ca\u8b00\u6c42\u6539\u5584\uff01<br>This area is referred to as prevalent cloud zone. Receiving frequent rainfall, the hillside is more vulnerable to collapse if the forest is destroyed. That is to say, the area is crucial to our homeland security. With severe climate change affecting the planet, we must reconsider whether it is suitable to operate a man-planted forest in a heavy precipitation hillside at a risk of collapse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u81fa\u7063\u539f\u751f\u7684\u6bbc\u6597\u79d1\uff0c\u5ee3\u7fa9\u4f86\u8aaa\u67094\u5c6c\u7d0452\u7a2e(\u5206\u985e\u7fa4)\uff1a\u5c71\u6bdb\u6af8\u5c6c(Fagus)\u3001\u6adf\u5c6c(Quercus)\u3001\u77f3\u6adf\u5c6c(Lithocarpus)\u3001\u82e6\u6ae7\u5c6c(Castanopsis)\uff0c\u5176\u4e2d\u6adf\u5c6c\u5c31\u4f54\u4e8624 \u7a2e\u3002\u4e0a\u8ff0\u7684\u6adf\u6797\u5e36\uff0c\u4e5f\u6709\u5b78\u8005\u7a31\u70ba\u300c\u6a1f\u6bbc\u6797\u300d\uff0c\u610f\u6307\u4ee5\u6a1f\u79d1\u548c\u6bbc\u6597\u79d1\u70ba\u512a\u52e2\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u6545\u6b64\u6b21\u7684\u751f\u614b\u8abf\u67e5\u4e2d\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u5c31\u770b\u5230\u4e86\u6709\u8a31\u591a\u6a1f\u79d1\u7684\u5927\u6a39\uff0c\u5982\u9752\u8449\u6960\u3001\u9577\u8449\u6728\u8591\u5b50\u3001\u767d\u65b0\u6728\u8591\u5b50\u3002<br>Tawan native Fagaceae family is divided into 4 genuses, about 52 groupings: Fagus, Quercus, Lithocarpus and Castanopsis. There are 24 kinds in Quercus genus. The oak forest is also referred to as \u201cMixed stands of Fagaceae and camphora\u201d, meaning the forest dominated by Fagaceae and camphora. We purposely included a 30-meter tall Schima superba. The dominant species of the plant society in the sampling area is Schima superba-Prunus phaeosticta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-9 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1152\" height=\"864\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/\u6728\u8377-\u8336\u79d1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4771\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u6728\u8377-\u8336\u79d1<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/22713305_1743256479027318_8017594766799879249_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4773\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> \u9019\u7247\u68ee\u6797\u9664\u4e86\u6728\u8377\u5916\uff0c\u6a23\u5340\u9031\u908a\u4e5f\u6709\u8a31\u591a\u5176\u4ed6\u7684\u5927\u6a39\uff0c\u5982\u9752\u8449\u6960\u3001\u58a8\u9ede\u6afb\u6843\u3001\u9435\u51ac\u9752\u3001\u7d2b\u73e0\u8449\u6ce1\u82b1\u3001\u674f\u8449\u77f3\u6adf\u3001\u85af\u8c46\u3001\u9ec3\u675e\u3001\u9310\u679c\u6adf\u3001\u70cf\u5fc3\u77f3\u3001\u72f9\u8449\u6adf\u3001\u9577\u5c3e\u6832\uff0c\u9019\u4e9b\u5927\u6a39\u4e5f\u90fd\u9ad8\u905415~30m\u3002<br>Besides Schima superba, in the surrounding area are other giant trees such as Machilus zuihoensis var. mushaensis, Prunus phaeosticta, Ilex rotunda, Meliosma callicarpaefolia, Lithocarpus amygdalifolius, Elaeocarpus japonicus, Engelhardtia roxburghiana, Cyclobalanopsis longinux, Michelia compressa, Cyclobalanopsis stenophylloides, and Castanopsis carlesii. Those giant trees are at the height of 15 meters to 30 meters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-12 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1365\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/\u58a8\u9ede\u6afb\u6843.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4776\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u58a8\u9ede\u6afb\u6843<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1365\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/\u9ec3\u675e.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4777\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u9ec3\u675e<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> \u5728\u9019\u6b21\u6d3b\u52d5\u7684\u89c0\u5bdf\u4e2d\uff0c\u9664\u4e86\u6a23\u5340\u7684\u7de9\u5761\u5e73\u53f0\u6709\u8f03\u7c97\u58ef\u7684\u5927\u6a39\u5916\uff0c\u5176\u4ed6\u9661\u5ced\u7684\u908a\u5761\uff0c\u5247\u5927\u90e8\u5206\u662f\u80f8\u5f9120cm\u4ee5\u4e0b\u7626\u7626\u7684\u6a39\u3002\u5f9e\u6a39\u7684\u5f91\u7d1a\uff0c\u7d04\u7565\u53ef\u770b\u51fa\u9019\u7247\u68ee\u6797\u7684\u5e74\u9f61\uff0c\u5f91\u7d1a\u6108\u5c0f\u7684\uff0c\u5c31\u6108\u5e74\u8f15\uff0c\u63db\u8a00\u4e4b\uff0c\u9019\u88e1\u9661\u5761\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u662f\u8655\u65bc\u4e00\u500b\u9694\u5e7e\u5341\u5e74\u5c31\u6703\u66f4\u65b0\u60c5\u5f62\uff0c\u9019\u53ef\u80fd\u662f\u5730\u9707\u3001\u964d\u96e8\u7522\u751f\u7684\u5d29\u584c\u6240\u9020\u6210\u3002<br>Besides the giant trees in the gentle slope sampling area, in other steep hillsides are slender trees under 20 cm of diameter at breast height. We can roughly estimate the age of the forest with levels of diameters at breast height. The smaller the diameter is, the younger the forest. In other words, the forest in the steep slope renews every several decades, this may be caused by earthquakes and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u5927\u7532\u6eaa\u4e2d\u6e38\u4ee5\u4e0a\u5927\u90e8\u4efd\u90fd\u662f\u50cf\u9019\u6a23\u300c\u5e74\u8f15\u300d\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u300c\u5e74\u8f15\u300d\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u4ee3\u8868\u9019\u88e1\u5e38\u5d29\u584c\uff0c\u4e5f\u4ee3\u8868\u9019\u88e1\u7684\u5730\u8cea\u975e\u5e38\u8106\u5f31\uff0c\u6545\u4e2d\u6a6b\u662f\u5426\u8981\u4e0d\u65b7\u82b1\u9322\u91cd\u5efa\uff0c\u6cbf\u7dda\u68ee\u6797\u7684\u300c\u5e74\u9f61\u300d\u4ea6\u662f\u8a55\u4f30\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u6307\u6a19\u3002<br>Above the midstream of Da- Chia River are mostly young forest like this, a \u201cyoung\u201d forest means it undergoes frequent landslides and the geologic structure is extremely fragile.
