DaDu natural forest has been destroyed for over 100 years. Due to a deteriorating ecological environment, it is impossible to <br> restore the ultimately biodiverse stable-state forest through ecological succession. <br> Therefore, Taiwan Reforestation Association plans ecological surveys in neighboring areas such asDakeng Toukoshan, Miaoli Sanyi Huoyanshan, and Chunghua Baguashan to estimate the composite of natural forest in Mt. DaDu to use as the blueprint for future reforestation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u56e0\u6b64\u672c\u6708\u68ee\u6797\u751f\u614b\u4e4b\u65c5\uff0c\u7279\u5225\u5b89\u6392\u5230\u4e09\u7fa9\u706b\u708e\u5c71\uff0c\u5e36\u9818\u5927\u5bb6\u63a2\u8a2a\u9019\u88e1\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\u3002<br> This month we go to Miaoli Sanyi Huoyanshan to visit the natural forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u4e09\u7fa9\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u4f4d\u65bc\u5927\u5b89\u6eaa\u7684\u5317\u5cb8\uff0c\u5c71\u9802\u6d77\u62d4\u9ad8\u5ea6602\u516c\u5c3a\u3002\u9019\u88e1\u662f\u81fa\u7063\u5317\u90e8\u8207\u4e2d\u90e8\u751f\u614b\u5e36\u7684\u4ea4\u754c\uff0c\u4e5f\u56e0\u5730\u5f62\u7684\u95dc\u4fc2\uff0c\u5f9e\u5357\u908a\u5439\u4f86\u7684\u6c23\u6d41\u96a8\u8457\u5730\u5f62\u5347\u9ad8\u3001\u964d\u6eab\uff0c\u800c\u4f7f\u4e09\u7fa9\u9019\u88e1\u5e38\u6709\u6fc3\u9727\u3002<br> Sanyi Huoyanshan is located in the north shore of Da-an River, with elevation height of 602 meters. It\u2019s on the border of the north and central Taiwan. Due to its terrain, the air current from the south rises and cools down as it elevate with the mountain, that\u2019s why it\u2019s often foggy in Sanyi area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1728\" height=\"1296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/75486143_2449730191810684_6136017688993988608_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4745\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u4f46\u56e0500\u516c\u5c3a\u4ee5\u4e0b\uff0c\u525b\u597d\u662f\u300c\u9006\u6eab\u5c64\u300d\uff0c\u6bcf\u4e0a\u5347100\u516c\u5c3a\uff0c\u975e\u4f46\u6c92\u6709\u964d0.6\u5ea6C\uff0c\u6108\u5f80\u4e0a\u722c\uff0c\u53cd\u800c\u6108\u71b1\u3002\u5f9e\u767b\u5c71\u53e3\u5230\u5c71\u9802\u7684\u6b65\u9053\u9577\u7d043km\uff0c\u8ddd\u96e2\u96d6\u4e0d\u9060\uff0c\u4f46\u708e\u71b1\u52a0\u4e0a\u9661\u5ced\uff0c\u611f\u89ba\u5982\u722c\u300c\u706b\u5c71\u300d\uff0c\u6c57\u6d41\u6d79\u80cc\u7684\u7a0b\u5ea6\uff0c\u7d55\u5c0d\u4e0d\u6703\u8f38\u7d66\u8dd1\u99ac\u62c9\u677e\u7684\u60c5\u5f62\uff01<br> However, below 500 meters is considered temperature inversion. Every elevation of 100 meters makes you feel hotter instead of cooling down. The distance is about three kilometers from the hiking gate to the top of the mountain. Hot weather and the steep trail made us sweat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u706b\u708e\u5c71\u9019\u88e1\u662f\u792b\u77f3\u5c64\u3002\u5728\u4e2d\u90e8\u5730\u5340\u4e09\u689d\u91cd\u8981\u6cb3\u5ddd\uff0c\u5c07\u9ad8\u5c71\u5d29\u843d\u7684\u5ca9\u77f3\uff0c\u7d93\u6f2b\u9577\u6cb3\u5ddd\u7684\u904b\u8f38\uff0c\u7814\u78e8\u6210\u5713\u6ed1\u7684\u792b\u77f3\u5f8c\uff0c\u5927\u91cf\u5806\u7a4d\u5728\u51fa\u5c71\u53e3\u7684\u5340\u57df\u3002\u5927\u5b89\u6eaa\u7684\u51fa\u5c71\u53e3\u662f\u706b\u708e\u5c71\uff0c\u5927\u7532\u6eaa\u662f\u982d\u5d59\u5c71\uff0c\u70cf\u6eaa\u5247\u662f\u4e5d\u4e5d\u5cf0\u3002\u9019\u4e9b\u51fa\u5c71\u53e3\u7684\u5340\u57df\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u9661\u5ced\u7684\u5c71\u5761\u9032\u5165\u5e73\u7de9\u5730\u5f62\u7684\u5730\u65b9\uff0c\u9019\u4ea6\u662f50\u591a\u842c\u5e74\u524d\u7684\u53e4\u6d77\u5cb8\u7dda\u3002\u9019\u4e9b\u5806\u7a4d\u7684\u792b\u77f3\u5c64\uff0c\u4e4b\u5f8c\u518d\u96a8\u8457\u9020\u5c71\u904b\u52d5\u62ac\u5347\uff0c\u53ca\u5c40\u90e8\u7684\u5730\u5f62\u4f5c\u7528\uff0c\u8b8a\u6210\u73fe\u4eca\u7684\u6a23\u8c8c\u3002<br>Huoyanshan cosists of gravel terrance. In central Taiwan, three major rivers bring rocks collasping from high mountains; after a long journey, the rocks become smooth gravels, massively deposited in the river exit. The exit area of Da-an River is Huoyanshan, the exit area of Dajia River is Toukoshan, and the exit area of Wu River is Jiujiu Peak. The exit areas are where steep mountain goes to flat terrain, which is also the ancient coastline dated back 500,000 years ago. The accumulated gravel terrance elevated by orogeny and geomorphic process, becoming what it is today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1728\" height=\"1296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/76612180_2449729088477461_4906736579306848256_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4746\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u5be6\u666f<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u7531\u65bc\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u8207\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u540c\u6a23\u662f\u792b\u77f3\u5c64\u7684\u5730\u8cea\u7d50\u69cb\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u9019\u88e1\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u5c0d\u65bc\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u5929\u7136\u6797\u7684\u5fa9\u80b2\uff0c\u6975\u5177\u53c3\u8003\u50f9\u503c\u3002\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u76ee\u524d\u50c5\u6b98\u5b58\u8457\u975e\u5e38\u5c0f\u9762\u7a4d\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\uff0c\u5982\u964d\u771f\u9999\u3001\u6bec\u82b1\u5609\u8cdc\u6728\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u5176\u4ed6\u81fa\u7063\u4f4e\u6d77\u62d4\u5e38\u898b\u7684\u9999\u6960\u3001\u6c5f\u67d0\u3001\u9752\u525b\u6adf\u7b49\uff0c\u5728\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u5df2\u5b8c\u5168\u4e0d\u898b\u8e64\u8de1\u3002<br> Huoyanshan and Mt. Dadu are both gravel terrance. Thus, the forest here can be of valuable reference. Mt. Dadu has a small amount of remaining natural forest such as Acronychia pedunculata and Casearia glomerata. Common lower altitudes plants such as Machilus zuihoensis, Schefflera octophylla and Cyclobalanopsis glauca aren\u2019t seen in Mt. Dadu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/78471998_1488475907956893_8069421161731063808_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4747\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u6211\u5011\u9806\u8457\u6b65\u9053\u800c\u4e0a\uff0c\u7d04\u57280.9km\u7684\u5730\u65b9\uff0c\u6d77\u62d4345m\uff0c\u62c9\u8a2d\u4e86\u4e00\u500b20mx20m\u7684\u6a23\u5340\uff0c\u9019\u88e1\u662f\u300c\u4e09\u6597\u77f3\u6adf\u2500\u4e5d\u7bc0\u6728\u300d\u690d\u7269\u793e\u6703\u3002\u63db\u8a00\u4e4b\uff0c\u904e\u53bb\u7684\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u7406\u61c9\u6703\u6709\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u3002\u6b64\u68ee\u6797\u7684\u7d50\u69cb\u8207\u7269\u7a2e\u7d44\u6210\uff0c\u8a73\u5982\u9644\u4ef6\u3002<br> We hiked on the trail, and set a 20m by 20m sampling area located in 0.9k, at the height of 345meters. Here is the \u201cPasania hancei var. ternaticupula &#8211; Psychotria rubra\u201d     plant society. In other words, in the past Mt. Dadu are supposed to have a forest like this. The composite of the forest and species are as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-3 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/22136920_1900963596582233_3798330413224040534_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4760\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u570d\u8a2d\u6a23\u5340<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reforestation.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/\u4e5d\u7bc0\u6728-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4761\"\/><figcaption style=\"color:#757677;font-size:14px\" class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u4e5d\u7bc0\u6728<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6211\u5011\u6240\u8b02\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\uff0c\u662f\u6307\u68ee\u6797\u906d\u53d7\u958b\u767c\u6216\u81ea\u7136\u707d\u5bb3\u5f8c\uff0c\u7d93\u6f14\u66ff\u6062\u5fa9\u70ba\u6975\u76db\u76f8\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u6b64\u6709\u5225\u65bc\u6b21\u751f\u6797\u3002<br>Natural forest is defined as an ultimately stable state forest through a chain of ecological succession after disruption or natural disaster, which differs from secondary forest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6b21\u751f\u6797\u7684\u6a39\u6728\u5c6c\u65bc\u967d\u6027\u7684\u690d\u7269\uff0c\u662f\u5148\u9a45\u7269\u7a2e\uff0c\u5728\u68ee\u6797\u906d\u53d7\u7834\u58de\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u6703\u5148\u9032\u4f86\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u53ef\u4ee5\u5fcd\u53d7\u5f37\u70c8\u7684\u967d\u5149\uff0c\u8207\u8ca7\u7620\u7684\u74b0\u5883\uff0c\u4f46\u6210\u6797\u5f8c\uff0c\u5728\u5927\u6a39\u679d\u8449\u7684\u906e\u9670\u4e0b\uff0c\u74b0\u5883\u8b8a\u70ba\u9670\u6697\uff0c\u7531\u65bc\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u5c0f\u82d7\u9700\u8981\u5f37\u70c8\u7684\u967d\u5149\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u9019\u4e9b\u5c0f\u82d7\u7121\u6cd5\u5728\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u4e0b\u751f\u9577\uff0c\u4f46\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u74b0\u5883\uff0c\u537b\u525b\u597d\u9069\u5408\u5929\u7136\u6797\u7684\u8010\u9670\u7269\u7a2e\u7684\u751f\u9577\u3002<br>Trees considered as secondary forest are those of sun plants, which are pioneer species. They are the first to colonize previously disrupte environment, tolerating intense sunlight and harsh environment. After pioneer species develop to their fullest, their own seedlings can\u2019t grow in the shady understory. However, the environment are ideal for shade-tolerant trees to grow.<br>\u6b21\u751f\u6797\u8001\u5316\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ea4\u68d2\u7d66\u8010\u9670\u7684\u6a39\u6728\uff0c\u518d\u9010\u6f38\u5f62\u6210\u5929\u7136\u6797\u3002\u6545\u5929\u7136\u6797\u7684\u7269\u7a2e\u5927\u90e8\u5206\u5c6c\u65bc\u8010\u9670\u7684\u690d\u7269\uff0c\u9019\u4e9b\u6a39\u6728\u7684\u5c0f\u82d7\u5fc5\u9808\u5728\u9670\u6697\u7684\u74b0\u5883\u4e2d\uff0c\u6162\u6162\u751f\u9577\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u5728\u7b49\u8001\u6a39\u5012\u4e0b\u5f8c\uff0c\u63a5\u66ff\u88dc\u4e0a\u68ee\u6797\u7684\u7a7a\u7f3a\u8207\u7834\u6d1e\u3002<br>As secondary forest age, shade tolerant plants start to take place, forming natural forest. Consequently, the majority of the natural forest species are shade plants. Their seedlings must endure the shade and grow, waiting for old trees to fall and take over the space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u56e0\u6b64\u5929\u7136\u6797\u662f\u9670\u6697\u7684\uff0c\u4e14\u5929\u7136\u6797\u4e2d\u7684\u512a\u52e2\u55ac\u6728\uff0c\u5728\u6797\u4e0b\u4e00\u5b9a\u6709\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u5c0f\u82d7\u5b58\u5728\u3002\u5982\u9019\u7247\u300c\u4e09\u6597\u77f3\u6adf\u300d\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u8001\u3001\u4e2d\u3001\u9752\u3001\u5c11\u3001\u5e7c\u5152\uff0c\u5168\u90e8\u90fd\u6709\uff0c\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u5e74\u9f61\u7d50\u69cb\uff0c\u4e5f\u662f\u68ee\u6797\u4e4b\u6240\u4ee5\u80fd\u300c\u751f\u751f\u4e0d\u606f\u300d\u7684\u751f\u547d\u529b\uff01<br>As a consequence inside the natural forest is quite dark. The dominant arbor\u2019s seedlings can be found on the forest floor. In the Pasania hancei&nbsp;var.&nbsp;ternaticupula forest, they can be seen at different ages, from tiny seedlings to teen-age, adult phase, and old age. The forest has tuned into a \u201cGordonia axillaris dominant forest\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u7531\u65bc\u6c34\u5f80\u4f4e\u8655\u6d41\u7684\u7279\u6027\uff0c\u5728\u792b\u77f3\u5c64\u7684\u74b0\u5883\uff0c\u9ad8\u5ea6\u7684\u6548\u61c9\uff0c\u4e5f\u5f62\u6210\u6c34\u4efd\u7684\u68af\u5ea6\uff0c\u96a8\u8457\u9ad8\u5ea6\u7684\u5347\u9ad8\uff0c\u571f\u58e4\u4e2d\u7684\u6c34\u4efd\u5c31\u6108\u5c11\u3002\u6c34\u4efd\u7684\u68af\u5ea6\u662f\u5f71\u97ff\u68ee\u6797\u7269\u7a2e\u7d44\u6210\u7684\u4e3b\u56e0\u4e4b\u4e00\uff0c\u5728\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u9802\u6216\u7626\u7a1c\u4e0a\uff0c\u5927\u982d\u8336\u56e0\u80fd\u5fcd\u53d7\u6c34\u4efd\u5c11\u7684\u4e7e\u65f1\u74b0\u5883\uff0c\u800c\u52dd\u51fa\u6210\u70ba\u512a\u52e2\u7684\u7269\u7a2e\u3002\u9019\u4e5f\u610f\u5473\u8457\uff0c\u5728\u5927\u809a\u5c71\u985e\u4f3c\u7684\u74b0\u5883\uff0c\u5927\u982d\u8336\u662f\u53ef\u80fd\u7684\u5929\u7136\u6797\u985e\u578b\u3002<br>As water flowing downwards, in the gravel environment, the water content in soil decreases as the height elvevates. Water content is the main factor to affect species composition in a forest. On the top of Huoyanshan and the thin ridge, Gordonia axillaris can survive in an arid environment and become dominant species. That is to say, in a similar environment as Mt. DaDu, Gordonia axillaris could be the type of natural forest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u5728\u7a1c\u7dda\u4e8c\u5074\u7684\u5d29\u584c\u5340\uff0c\u4e5f\u770b\u5230\u8a31\u591a\u99ac\u5c3e\u677e\u3002\u99ac\u5c3e\u677e\u662f\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u81ea\u7136\u4fdd\u7559\u5340\u4fdd\u8b77\u7684\u5c0d\u8c61\uff0c\u572815\u5e74\u524d\u56e0\u677e\u6750\u7dda\u87f2\u7684\u8086\u8650\uff0c\u9019\u88e1\u7684\u99ac\u5c3e\u677e\u6709\u5c07\u8fd195%\u53d7\u611f\u67d3\u6b7b\u4ea1\u3002\u7576\u6642\u4e0d\u5c11\u4eba\u6182\u5fc3\u6b64\u51b0\u6cb3\u5b51\u907a\u7684\u7269\u7a2e\uff0c\u5c31\u6b64\u6ec5\u7d55\uff01<br>In the landslide area on both side of the ridgeline, we saw many Pinus massoniana, which the reserve intend to protect. 15 years ago, due to a Outbreaks of pine wilt disease caused by Pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) , 95% of the Pinus massoniana were infectecd and died. Many people were worried whether the glacial relict species would disappear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6b64\u6b21\u89c0\u5bdf\uff0c\u5f88\u9ad8\u8208\u770b\u5230\u9019\u7fa4\u99ac\u5c3e\u677e\u5f9e\u5927\u96e3\u4e2d\uff0c\u71ac\u4e86\u904e\u4f86\u3002\u9762\u5c0d\u9019\u7fa4\u99ac\u5c3e\u677e\uff0c\u5fc3\u4e2d\u5145\u6eff\u8457\u5d07\u656c\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u6578\u842c\u5e74\u4f86\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u4e00\u76f4\u633a\u7acb\u5728\u706b\u708e\u5c71\u4e0a\uff0c\u4e00\u4ee3\u4e00\u4ee3\u5b88\u8b77\u8457\u9019\u5ea7\u5c71\uff0c\u5fc3\u60f3\u6211\u5011\u662f\u5426\u4e5f\u80fd\u50cf\u4ed6\u5011\u4e00\u6a23\uff0c\u7528\u4e00\u751f\u4f86\u5b88\u8b77\u8457\u81fa\u7063\u9019\u584a\u571f\u5730\u3002<br>During the trip, we\u2019re glad to learn that Pinus massoniana has survied the disaster. We have repects for the Pinus massoniana as they stand on Huoyanshan for tens of thousands of years and guard the mountain for generations. Surprisingly, after ten years, a beautiful forest flourish in the area through natural succession. The part of the path proves that forest recovers from disruption, as long as they keep the seeds alive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u6b64\u6b21\u884c\u7a0b\uff0c\u6240\u6709\u53c3\u52a0\u7684\u5925\u4f34\u90fd\u7d2f\u5230\u76f4\u547c\u5370\u8c61\u6df1\u523b\u3002\u96d6\u7136\u75b2\u7d2f\uff0c\u4f46\u6bcf\u500b\u4eba\u537b\u7570\u53e3\u540c\u8072\u5730\u8aaa\uff0c\u7559\u5728\u5fc3\u4e2d\u7684\uff0c\u90fd\u662f\u7f8e\u9e97\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u8207\u5927\u81ea\u7136\u7684\u7f8e\u666f\u3002<br>The hiking trip certainly tired all participants.
